The biggest threat currently facing the club is water security. Historically, we have relied on abstracting water from Rothley Brook during the summer months to irrigate the course. Anticipating that this supply might not be sufficient in the future due to abstraction restrictions, several years ago we invested in a mains supply from Westfield Lane to supplement the river abstraction. This investment has proved to be absolutely invaluable, since for the whole of last summer the Environment Agency banned us from taking any water out of the brook and therefore all the water used to irrigate the course last summer came by way of the mains supply. However, this arrangement is not sustainable, as the supply is expensive and not guaranteed.
We are fortunate to have a modern irrigation system that enables efficient use of our water supply, and we have significantly increased our storage capacity. Nonetheless, to guarantee water security, we must construct our own water storage reservoir. Two potential locations have been identified in the field to the right of the 4th hole and a consultant, Marcus White of http://hydreau.co.uk has been commissioned to guide us through the process. Hydreau will have produced a comprehensive feasibility study on the project by the time of the Course Forum on Wednesday the 6th of May.
