Water Conservation at RPGC

Despite record rainfall of 200mm (8 inches) during March and April, the dry spell which has now lasted a month, has prompted the environment agency to restrict our supply of water from the Rothley Brook. Fortunately, we invested in a mains supply from Westfield Lane several years ago which has proved invaluable during the recent hot, dry summers and latest dry spell, although currently we are limited to 60% of our ideal daily requirements.

We are in the process of utilising the technology available to us to map the moisture content of all areas every green. The ideal range of percentage moisture on our greens should be between 20% and 30%. Every green has its traditionally drier and wetter areas but with our state of the art irrigation system we are able to remotely regulate the amount of water supplied by the sprinkler heads to ensure that moisture content is consistent across all the green complexes.

We expect that using the precision inherent in our irrigation system, we will be able to optimise our water consumption.
